LAWN CARE TIPS

We have the following information sheets for your use in getting a great lawn:
Lawn Care Worksheet (.pdf)
New Lawn Establishment (.pdf)

Spring and early fall are the preferred times to plant a new lawn. When temperatures are mild, lawns can be seeded as early as March 1 or as late as October 30. The warmer the soil the faster the seed will germinate.

A lawn planted with ProTime Lawn Seed after April 15 will begin to germinate and establish very quickly. Follow these easy directions for professional results.
  1. Use a Rototiller to prepare soils:
    • First, remove stones and debris;
    • Second, spread Lime to the soil at the rate of 1-bag per 1,000 square feet;
    • Third, spread Turface soil amendment over the entire area at the rate of 1-bag per 100 sq ft.;
    • Fourth, rototill to a depth of 2—4 inches

  2. Use a Landscape Rake to remove large clods and gross irregularities in the grade.

  3. Use a Water Roller to settle the area and the Landscape Rake to form a surface level and true to grade. The finished seed bed should be firm, not fluffy.

  4. Use a Landscape Rake to form a loose seedbed that is 1/4” to 1/2” deep.

  5. Use a Spreader to broadcast Key-to-Green Starter Fertilizer. This will get your lawn off to a strong start and speed up establishment.

  6. Use a Spreader to spread ProTime Lawn Seed at a rate of 7 to 10-pounds per 1,000 square feet.

  7. Use a Mulch Roller to completely cover the seed to a depth of no greater than 1/4” with ProTime Grass Straw Mulch.

  8. Use a Water Roller to roll the entire surface to press soil and mulch around the seed.

  9. Keep the entire area moist until established.

  10. Use a reel type Lawn Mower for the first mowing when the grass blades reach 1-1/2” in height. If using a rotary-mower, wait until the lawn in 2—3 inches tall before the first mowing. Mowing will encourage the blades to branch out and complete the establishment process.

  11. Apply Key-to-Green Maintain Fertilizer when the lawn is one month old to reach optimum establishment and density.
